MUMFORD & SONS AND RHIANNA
TO HEADLINE T IN THE PARK’s 20TH YEAR
TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY 7TH DECEMBER FROM WWW.TINTHEPARK.COM
So next year is T In The Park’s 20th anniversary and this morning they have announced two of their three headliners for the event, and a lot of people will be happy to hear that Mumford & Sons and Rhianna will take to the Balado stage. I also however have a feeling that a lot of people will not be too enthused with the choice of headliners for the festival. A quick search for T In The Park on Twitter came back with a slew of tweets in the same vein as @alexmccrindle’s “How do t in the park go from having acts like Blur, The Specials, Foo Fighters, etc to Mumford and Sons and Rhianna it’s diabolical”, while @michaelhepburn added “As much as I like Mumford & Sons, why would you want them to headline the 20th anniversary of T in the Park? and Rhianna?”.
The Script, Paloma Faith, alt-J, Jake Bugg and Of Monsters and Men also join what is undoubtedly so far a very pop orientated line-up. alt-J said: “It’s an absolute honour to be invited back to play at Scotland’s biggest and best music festival – WE CAN’T WAIT!”
While Festival Director Geoff Ellis added: “Seems like only yesterday that the first band took to the stage at Strathclyde Park for our inaugural T in the Park in 94, now here we are in 2012 announcing 2 of the of the world’s biggest and best acts to headline our 20th edition. We have always worked incredibly hard to bring our T in the Park fans the best line-up possible, and this year is no exception. We are unbelievably excited that Mumford & Sons and Rihanna will be taking to the Main Stage in Kinross as we are sure our audience will be. We have many more fantastic acts in store for everyone and will announce these next year, but it’s shaping up to be one hell of celebration.”
Let’s hope that the announcements next year are perhaps a bit more adventurous and also contain plenty of Scottish talent, although at least Kasabian or Snow Patrol have not yet been revealed as the third headliner. So far to me this line-up again just shows the need in Scotland for an alternative music festival that dares to be a bit different, much like Geoff Ellis’ ill fated yet totally amazing Connect Festival.
